Debut of the NYRambler Hurricane Blog

Welcome to the NYRambler Hurricane Blog. This is my second topic-oriented blog; my other blog is a poker-related blog, which can be found here.

I will be updating (or at least trying to update) this blog daily during the year, and in the event of a major hurricane, it will probably be more like hourly.

I will be focusing mainly on the Atlantic Basin, though if the Atlantic Basin is dead (as it has been for the past 2 months), then I will focus on some other systems

So I'll first update us with the conditions of the only Tropical System in either the Atlantic or Central/Western Pacific, and that storm is Tropical Storm Lana.

As of 4pm ET, Lana is located at 12.3 N, 141.4 W, around 640 Miles Southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. It is packing winds of 65 MPH, and I would say has about a 20% chance of intensifying into a Hurricane. It does not pose a direct threat to Hawaii at the moment, and won't make landfall, but outer rain bands may affect it, and the surf should pick up.

Another post I will try to make Daily is 'This Day in Hurricane History'. It's official debut will be tomorrow, but here will be a preview post. NOTE: TDiHH will only go back to 1979 (the year the current list of Hurricane Names was first used), except in the case of major storms (Long Island Express, 1900 Galveston, etc.)

This Day in Hurricane History: July 31

July 31, 1995: Tropical Storm Dean makes Landfall as a 45 mph storm, spawning 2 tornadoes in Texas.
